In September 2008, we welcomed our first girls into the main prep school.

Girls had always been a vibrant part of our junior school, but now we can offer them a continuous St. Edmund’s education from two through to thirteen years old.

Our co-education has been two years in the making: we were determined that girls should have an equal and central stake in St. Edmund’s, and not be mere ‘add-ons’ to the existing school.

We were therefore delighted to appoint Jane Olle as Head of Girls. Jane is a former head of the neighbouring Royal School, and has brought with her a wealth of experience and fresh ideas.

She has designed a girls’ programme that strikes a careful balance between girls-orientated activities, sports and pastimes, with the natural integration that makes co-education valuable.
