Green St.Edmund's
Our Sustainability Commitment
At St Edmund’s School, we believe in creating a greener future for our pupils, staff, and community. We are actively working to reduce our environmental impact through practical, measurable initiatives.
What We’re Doing
- Solar Energy
We have installed solar panels on the dining hall roof to generate clean, renewable energy. - Recycling & Waste Reduction
A comprehensive recycling system is in place, with pupils helping to empty and sort bins—building responsibility and eco-awareness. We keep food waste to a minimum – our kitchen weighs waste and then document this onto a programme called "Food Cool Pro" , which is shared with pupils on a big TV screen in the dining room for all to be aware and mindful of waste. - Energy Efficiency
We are replacing old lighting with LED fixtures across the site to cut energy use and improve efficiency. - Eco-Friendly Cleaning
Our cleaning products are being switched to biodegradable, non-toxic alternatives for a healthier environment. - Sustainable Transport
We are introducing electric vehicles for school operations and exploring ways to reduce emissions from travel.
We send out 14 school mini-buses each day with a seat capacity of around 210 passenger seats.
This saves a potential 292 car trips a day (210 - 14 = 196 trips in the morning and 296 trips in the evening).

Looking Ahead
We will continue to review and expand these initiatives, aiming to make St Edmund’s a leader in sustainability and environmental stewardship.
