Scholarships & Bursaries

Scholarships are awarded to pupils entering Form 7 (11+) and Form 9 (13+) from the current St. Edmund’s Form 6 and Form 8 cohort, as well as to pupils applying externally.

St. Edmund’s School, Surrey, celebrates and encourages the talents of our pupils and scholarships are offered in Academia, Art, Music, Drama, Performing Arts and Sport. Our Scholars are expected to demonstrate outstanding achievement, enthusiasm and potential in their chosen field, as well as participate fully in the life of the school. Opportunities exist inside and outside the classroom for our highest achievers to explore their strengths to a deeper level, as well as further develop their talents.

All our Scholars are expected to be excellent ambassadors for the whole school and their departments, as well as demonstrate ongoing dedication to their area of specialism.  They are expected to offer an example to and be an inspiration for others.

Scholarships are awarded at the discretion of the Governors based on the recommendation of the Headmaster.  Some Scholarship Awards are honorary but others come with a small remission on annual tuition fees.   All scholars have the same status and responsibilities.

Bursaries may be awarded to those children whose families have difficulty affording normal school fees and special consideration is given to those children whose parents come from military service backgrounds, or are employed in education, or where another member of the family is or has been a student at St. Edmund’s.

As a first step, parents / guardians are required to formally register their child for entry. Following this, parents / guardians should advise the Registrar of their intention in seeking a bursary. They will be asked to complete an application form which seeks to establish the financial circumstances of the household. The Bursar will assess all applications, along with the Head and Governors, and will be in contact with parents requesting a bursary throughout the application process.
