Our Lower Prep School is a fun, engaging and exciting place to be.
As Charlie Chaplin once said,
“A day without laughter is a day wasted”
a quote that sits perfectly within the spirit of St. Edmund’s.
All our children are encouraged to try new challenges, and abilities and talents are developed and supported. Small classes create opportunities for self-expression, performance and participation. Children are encouraged to be supportive of each other and successes are celebrated.
Making the most of the extensive school site and facilities, children in Forms 1 to 4 are encouraged to embrace every opportunity presented to them with enthusiasm and energy whilst at the same time being shown the importance of self-esteem and discipline. In common with the Prep School and Senior School, the curriculum is both broad and challenging, allowing the children the chance to benefit from specialist teaching from a young age.
Knowing our pupils means that we can ensure each gets just the right balance of support and challenge. A broad and varied curriculum stimulates and engages the children, with opportunities to develop their creative, artistic, musical and sporting talents.
All aspects of numeracy and literacy skills combine to create a foundation on which pupils will build their learning in the Prep School and Senior School. Technology is used to support teaching and learning, and to ensure all pupils develop the independent learning skills needed for success in the future. Pupils in Forms 1 and 2 are able to continue their ICT journey with use of classroom laptops while pupils in Forms 3 and 4 visit the ICT suite to enhance their ICT learning.
Spoken language receives particular attention in the Lower Prep School. Visitors often comment on the confidence with which pupils contribute, either to regular class discussions or on more formal occasions. A programme of assemblies and individual talks help to develop confidence and self-expression.
